When I was a young man, my Dad introduced me to the great Steve Martin. The star of roughly half of my 10 all-time favorite comedies, Steve has always been a hero of mine. I knew that I wanted to draw him, I just wasn't sure if I wanted to do Steve now, or arrow-through-the-head Steve. I decided to split the difference and draw Steve as he was maybe 20 years ago, although it's hard to tell exactly, since I can't use hair color as a reference point.
This is my favorite celebrity portrait I've done to date, and it makes me happy to feel that I did him justice.
The drawing is 11x14 on Bristol smooth, and is a combination of graphite and black colored pencil.
